The Right to Language Support for Students on the Autism Spectrum
In the summer of 2014, the National Council of Teachers of English sent NASET a Position Statement on the right to language support for students on the autism spectrum. They requested we disseminate it to our members. This resolution builds on NCTE's longstanding policies on students' rights to their own languages, resolutions opposing practices that denigrate home or heritage languages, policies supporting the unique learning needs of the individual, resolutions supporting inclusion of exceptional students, and similar language and exceptionality awareness initiatives passed and affirmed throughout NCTE's history.
