Autism in adults: Often diagnosed in childhood, the disorder can also become evident decades later

Area experts agree that getting an evaluation for autism as an adult is challenging.

However, such a diagnosis can also be life-changing – if one can find a licensed professional for the assessment.

“There are not enough individuals doing evaluations nationwide,” said Douglas Felt, a school psychologist who worked for Toledo Public Schools for 35 years and now works for the Center for Solutions in Brief Therapy in Sylvania. It is one of the few organizations that assesses and works with children, families, as well as adults with an autism diagnosis.
