DESCRIPTION:

The Learning Center for the Deaf is a nationally-recognized leader in educational, therapeutic, and community services for deaf and hard of hearing children and adults and is the largest provider of services benefiting deaf and hard of hearing children and adults--and families--in New England. We cultivate a diverse bilingual, bicultural community where the primary language of interaction is American Sign Language (ASL).

We offer a Pre-K to 12+ day school enrolling nearly 200 deaf and hard of hearing students; the first school in the United States to have adopted the ASL/English bilingual, bicultural model in a K-12 educational setting. We also offer a nationally-recognized residential therapeutic and education program for deaf children and youth ages 8 to 22.  Working with a staff that is proficient in ASL (over 75% of whom are Deaf), every student’s program is individually designed to build self-esteem and self-reliance through a variety of therapeutic approaches. TLC provides a wide range of Transition Services from career readiness classes through the Career and Technology Education program to internships.

DISABILITIES SERVED:

TLC provides support for students who are challenged by severe social and emotional difficulties and have significant treatment needs. In addition to our typically developing deaf students we do have a number of students who have disabilities including: learning and language disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder.
