Anxiety Disorders

Introduction

What is anxiety?

Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. Many people worry about things such as health, money, or family problems. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For people with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. The symptoms can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, schoolwork, and relationships. There are several types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and various phobia-related disorders.

TRIVIA QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to

?Andrea Bonanno, Karen Frantz-Fry, Katrina Snider, Carren Carroll, Joann Judge, Cindi Maurice, Lauro Esquilona III, Patsy Ray, Prahbhjot Malhi, Charlene Clifton, Ellen Kay, Pamela Byrd, Tomeka Jones, and Cara Cunningham who all knew the answer to last week's trivia question:

According to research led by the University of Essex (and published last year in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal), adolescents with autism who improved playing this instrument showed fewer signs of hyperactivity and inattention. The research suggests that children with autism who learn how to play this musical instrument aren't afraid of making mistakes. When they stop and make a mistake in playing this instrument “they simply pause, reset, and off they go, and it's no big deal, and we see that transferring into their school situation where they are happy to give things a go rather than have a fear of failure”. What is the musical instrument?

Answer: DRUMS (DRUMMING)

This week's trivia question:

Enacted in 1990 and just celebrating its 33rd anniversary, this is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in everyday activities. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability just as other civil rights laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The law guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy employment opportunities, purchase goods and services, and participate in state and local government programs. What is this federal civil rights law?

If you know the answer to this week's trivia questions, email it to us at contactus@naset.org by August 1, 2023. If you are correct, you will be acknowledged in next week's NASET's Week in Review
