Special Education Teachers are responsible for planning and implementing an effective program of instruction based on students’ Individual Education Programs (IEP’s). Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Develop and implement an appropriate IEP for each student by assessing student needs, determining appropriate instructional goals and objectives, designing instruction to meet student needs, and evaluating student progress.

Work cooperatively with Program Supervisor, Building Administrators, teachers, and other Intermediate Unit and school district staff to teach students functional skills within the least restrictive environment.

Utilize research-based instructional and behavioral support techniques in order to reach IEP goals and objectives.

Establish a consistent classroom, instructional schedule, and maintains an orderly learning environment.

Collect data and maintains adequate records of pupil progress as required by the Department of Education.

Submit required reports which document students’ educational progress.

Communicate effectively with parents, school, and IU13 personnel.

Plan and oversee the duties of instructional support staff assigned to the classroom.

The IU13 Preschool Early Intervention Program provides support and services to children, from age three to age five, with disabilities and the need for specially designed instruction. This position will work in a specialized Autistic Support classroom setting. Our classroom teachers focus on teaching the right skills in an effective sequence utilizing the systematic methods of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This position may also include a small itinerant caseload which may provide instruction in community preschool, daycare, and student’s homes.


The position requires a bachelor’s degree and active PA certification in Special Education (PK-12, Grades 7-12).
