Job Description

Trinity School is seeking a certified Learning Specialist to lead a small team of specialists in the role of Coordinator of Learning Services. The ideal candidate is one who has taught in a variety of settings; a range of ages; and used different approaches. This person knows about remediation and how to provide strategies for students and teachers through direct and indirect services. This individual needs the ability to communicate well between a variety of people who have different interests in the Learning Support Department. The Learning Specialist will become a part of our school’s founding years in developing the Learning Support and Student Services. Being excited about adding more bricks and mortar to the”cornerstone” for the Learning Support and Student Services is important; however, the most significant element for this individual to understand and to embrace is how Genesis 1:27 and Ephesians 2:10 states how each student truly is identified.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the Student Services Department (Reading Specialist, Learning Specialist, Counselor, Nurse)
  • Oversees development of Learning Disability and Reading Services for grades 1-12.
  • Attends the monthly Academic Staff meetings
  • Teaches students where needed LS (math) MS (math) US (Academic Coach)
  • Parent Conferences/Meetings
  • Presents at Division Meetings/Education Committee/Professional Development

Job Requirements

  • Masters in Learning Disabilities with 12+ years of experience.
  • Certified by North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Learning Disabled or Special Education
  • Taught in a variety of settings: Independent and/or Public Schools; Elementary and/or Middle School
  • Strong knowledge base in dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia as well as ADHD and executive functioning issues.
  • Ability to teach 1:1 and small groups of students reading/math/study skills.
  • Ability to read, summarize, communicate either verbally or in print about the results from the Psychological-Educational evaluation to parents, teachers, or students. (Grades 1-12)
  • Ability to write a student accommodation plan (IEP) from a Psychological-Educational Evaluation
  • Knows about and can teach a phonics-based reading program, a language-based spelling and writing program, and a multi-sensory, number-sense math program.
  • Can assess, identify, and recommend students for formal outside evaluations.
  • Knows the cognitive, social/emotional, physical, developmental stages for young children through adolescent.
  • Ability to refine and write relevant policies and procedures.
  • Knows how to use technology and is knowledgeable about assistive technology for students with learning differences and ADHD.
