Middle/High School Principal

Description:

Under the direction of the Education Department’s Vice President and/or Director, the Principal ensures that the school provides a safe, productive learning environment of the highest quality and is aligned with NYS Learning Standards and Individual Educational Program mandates.  In particular, the Principal serves as the school’s chief administrator in (1) implementing policies, programs, and curriculum activities in a manner that promotes individualized educational development of each student, (2) continued professional development of each staff member, (3) effective partnering and communication with parents/family members, Department of Education liaisons, and other educational service providers, and (4) overseeing the overall safety and soundness of facility operations.

Requirements:

  • Masters in Special Education, Permanent NYS Certification in Special Education and Certification as a School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS) required.
  • Supervisory and programmatic experience in a special education school setting and knowledge of state and local regulations required.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, as well as establish and maintain relationships, with individuals, family members, school district administrators and other external professional staff.  This includes ability to present information simply and concisely, be a skilled listener, and demonstrate excellent writing skills.
  • Must have solid organizational and multi-tasking skills and proven ability to make independent decisions, set appropriate program priorities, and handle sensitive and/or stressful situations. 
  • Experience with children with autism highly preferred.
