Oakes Children's Center's Counseling Enriched Education Program, or CEEP, is a school-based mental health program for children in grades K – 8, who present with significant emotional and academic needs. Most students are referred to Oakes' CEEP because they have been unsuccessful in small classrooms within their district and need a school with on-site mental health providers.

The CEEP at Oakes is certified by the California Department of Education as a non-public school (NPS) and as such, must meet annual requirements for certification.

General Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a therapeutic-educational plan for each child, utilizing IEP goals (academic, behavioral, and mental health), CA State Content Standards, District requirements, and CDE regulations. This includes lesson planning in the following areas: Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Art, PE, and Health.
  • Supervise students through implementation of Oakes' Positive Behavior Intervention System, individual Behavior Plans, IEP goals, etc.
  • Plan and structure the day, including transition times
  • Establish and maintain a relationship with parents which supports the children in achieving their goals.
  • Prepare reports including beginning and end of year assessments, parent-staff goals, Treatment Review reports, report cards for SFUSD, and quarterly IEP goal updates
  • Participate in all staff development activities provided by Oakes
  • Participate with team members in individual and/or group conferences at Oakes with parents.
  • Manage classroom budget
  • Participate in parent programs as applicable for parents of your group (Parent Pot Luck, school assemblies, etc.).
  • Collaborate daily with team members to ensure full exchange of information regarding each child's progress and needs.
  • Prepare, with other team members, a summary of each child's progress for inclusion in medical charts and education records at the time of termination or at end of the year.
  • Classrooms in Oakes' CEEP are usually mixed-grade groups with students who demonstrate a wide range of academic functioning.
  • As such, Head Teachers must develop daily lesson plans that are differentiated and multi-sensory. Candidates who have previous experience with Project Based Learning or other hands-on, experiential learning are highly desirable.

The program at Oakes includes Extended School Year – an additional 24 days of school, where the days are shortened and the curriculum includes activities led by all school staff. Examples include Gardening, Cooking, Comic Book Club, Science Club, etc.

  • Education Specialist Credential or enrollment in a credential program, thus eligible for an Intern Credential. In limited cases, those who have passed all sections of the CBEST may be considered for 1-year employment on a Short Term Permit
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to clients & families who have experienced trauma
  • Ability to manage a team of Classroom Counselors
  • Collaborative approach in order to work side-by-side with Clinicians & Therapists
  • Ability to plan, organize, and maintain weekly lesson plans and to monitor student progress using formal & informal assessments
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to be trained & certified in ProACT, a system of crisis management that includes crisis communication and the use of physical intervention
  • Dedication to self-care and awareness that the work often leads to vicarious trauma or compassion fatigue
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, walk up stairs, run, and move about with ease

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Oakes Children's Center offers full benefits and generous budgets for classroom supplies, field trips, and behavior rewards. Benefits include:
