The Student Learning Services Teacher creates and implements programs to support students in improving student learning outcomes. The SLS teacher works collaboratively with teachers, school counselors, parents, and other specialists to assist students with learning needs to ensure academic success.

Depending on the assignment these duties may require in-person attendance and/or virtual attendance based on the specific operational or instructional requirements.
Support students with varying learning needs to gain better access to the curriculum.
Support teachers and educational assistants in employing appropriate strategies for students with learning needs and those who may benefit from minimal support from time to time. Collaborate with teachers in the planning and implementation of accommodations and modifications in the curriculum and assessment for students requiring support in the classroom and evaluating the effectiveness of these.
Observe and monitor students referred for possible learning support needs, prepare documentation, and work with homeroom teachers in communicating observed challenges to parents.
Use basic formal and informal tools to screen for learning needs or establish a performance baseline.
Read through psychological assessments and other reports from external consultants to better understand the student’s learning profile and use information in the formulation of Learning Plans and IEPs.
Formulate and implement Learning Plans and/or IEPs for students needing intervention, instructional accommodations, and/or modifications to improve learning outcomes.
Prepare progress documentation needed for report cards, conferences with parents, and re-enrollment recommendations.
Keep detailed records and files, following strict measures to maintain confidentiality, for each student in the program.
Coordinate and collaborate with parents and external consultants working with students supported by the Student Learning Services program.

Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or significant coursework and related experience in Learning Services. Master’s Degree in Special Education, Psychology preferred.
Two or more years of experience working with students within the classroom setting preferred.
Relevant training/certifications related to teaching students with special needs desired.
At least 1-2 years of relevant experience related to:
IEP planning, writing, and implementation
Working with children with academic support needs (1:1, small group)
Intervention (Literacy/Math) experience is an advantage
Knowledge and experience in instructional program development, learning styles, cognitive, emotional, and structural support.
Bilingual in French preferred.
Practical experience with study skills assessment, test taking strategies, organizational skills, note taking, and general academic skill sets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Communicate regularly with department head.
