Description:

Education Specialists provide assessment services and,  if needed,  develop,  implement,  and supervise  Individualized  Education  Plans  (IEPs). In collaboration with classroom teachers and parents/guardians, Education Specialists support and monitor student progress towards IEP goals, and play a crucial role in communicating needs, services, and accommodations to staff and  parents/guardians.

Duties include:

  • Provide individuals instruction and support to students with special needs in a general education setting

  • Support general education teachers by developing related goals and objectives, planning, and implementation strategies to meet the needs of students with IEPs

  • Provide accommodations for students with individual needs to encourage learning and success

  • Identifies and supports students’ social, emotional and behavior learning needs

  • Implements Project-based Learning techniques and strategies

  • Facilitates and designs effective group work amongst students

  • Fosters student growth through semi-annual Student-led Conferences (SLC) and Presentations of Learning (POL)

  • Scaffolds instructional activities that facilitate engaging and appropriate learning opportunities

  • Creates relevant and authentic learning experiences

  • Provides opportunities for student engagement through “Voice and Choice”

  • Implements backward design to align all lessons, activities and assessments

  • Designs formal and informal assessments that measure student progress

The ideal candidate would possess the following competencies:

  • Inform and communicate effectively with students, families and staff

  • Ability to demonstrate content knowledge, including California Common Core Standards

  • Exhibits knowledge of student cognitive development and various learning styles

  • Organization skills

  • Presentation and large group discussion skills

  • Ability to provide strong emotional support to students and families

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Basic Skills (CBEST)

Early Intervention Special Education Teacher

General Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Director of Early Intervention, the Early Intervention Special Education Teacher provides services to children birth to age three who are identified with a developmental delay or diagnosed condition. Early Intervention teachers provide early intervention strategies and supports in the areas of assessment, instruction, and consultation to staff and families of children age birth to three in natural environments as a primary service provider. Early Intervention teachers serve as a liaison with medical and community service providers on behalf of children with disabilities and their families.

Assignment/Location:

We are recruiting for an Early Intervention Special Education Teacher to serve our Early Intervention program. This position is full time, 185 day contract. The preferred start date for this position is April 24, 2023 - May 1, 2023, but there may be some flexibility. Essential Functions:

  • Provide formal and informal evaluations assessing functional capabilities of infants and toddlers on assigned caseload.

  • Develop and implement specific goals with measurable outcomes in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) in conjunction with the IFSP team.

  • Maintain all Early Intervention documentation including EI state forms and written documentation of all evaluations, goals, outcomes, progress notes and communication with other providers and families.

  • Ensure compliance with timelines for EI documentation.

  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ensure the goals of the infant, toddler, and family are met as stated in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

  • Provide consultation and home programs for the families/caregivers to facilitate goals as identified in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Other Functions:

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Availability to consult for other disciplines on an as-needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Washington teaching certificate with an early childhood special education endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • National Board Teacher Certification.

  • Experience in the administration and provisions of early childhood special education services.

This position will serve as a school resource for staff and parents with regards to special education services and regulations. The Reading Interventionist will work closely with the Student Support Team (SST) to assist in observing, documenting, and referring students with suspected special education impairments. The candidate should be able to monitor students; continuous progress through data collection and observation and provide information/support and training to teachers and parents around their child's needs. The Intervention Specialist should have a good understanding of state and federal regulations and local policies regarding children with special needs. The Intervention Specialist should be flexible, self-motivated, and a team player.

  • Teach and progress monitor a caseload of about 25-35 students (approximately 8 groups of up to 4 students each) to determine strengths and needs, analyze data, provide and plan interventions with fidelity;

  • Maintain continued communication with content area teachers and ensure knowledge of grade-level standards and concepts through weekly participation in grade team meetings;

  • Model responses and provide visual anchors/agendas/materials and lead students through guided and independent practice and regularly check for understanding;

  • Serve as a resource for families, teachers, and staff to ensure the understanding of the individuals needs and diagnosis;

  • Demonstrate understanding within the field of Special Education by integrating a student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) by planning and monitoring student IEP goals, sharing student data both verbally and in writing during IEP meetings;

  • Create positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment with high joy factor so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence;

  • Be an active member of the School Support team, Response-to-Intervention team and assist in developing strategies to service students in need;
