ACCEL

Description:

ACCEL was established in 1980 to serve students with autism, intellectual disabilities, emotional disabilities, orthopedic disabilities and other impairments by providing research-based educational, therapeutic and vocational programs.  ACCEL has developed a functional curriculum that emphasizes instruction in a variety of functional settings on campus and in the surrounding community in order to help those we serve increase their skill acquisition and ability to apply skills in daily life.  Each student in an ACCEL program receives a comprehensive evaluation of skills and an Individualized Education Program.  In addition to academic skills, ACCEL provides intensive instruction on communication, social, behavioral, recreation, motor, sensory, vocational, community and daily living skills to meet the needs of each individual student.  Target objectives are identified and task analyzed to break them down into small, obtainable steps. Specialized, research-based instruction with therapy support are integrated into instructional activities that naturally facilitate the use of targeted skills.  ACCEL offers small class sizes and a high staff to student ratio in order to maximize individualized, one-on-one attention.
