Pressley Ridge Day School Pittsburgh

Pressley Ridge Day School Pittsburgh

Who are we?

The Day School Pittsburgh is an Approved Private School and Partial Hospitalization Program with the goal of helping youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED) or behavior problems return to their original schools. The school serves up to 132 students, ages 6 to 21, who have struggled in their homes and schools. Our students often have mental health disorders or have problems managing their behaviors. Youth are referred to us by their local school districts. We are licensed by the state to provide special education services. The Day School operates within state, county, and local requirements. Families do not pay for their children to attend the Day School.

Our school is based on the concept of “Re-Education.”  We believe that each child can do well and when their basic needs are met, they are ready to learn. To help children become ready to learn, our staff do everything they can to foster strong, trusting relationships with our students and families. These relationships help to achieve student goals and improve their quality of life.

Our program consists of 10 classrooms, each with no more than 12 students. Each classroom is assigned a special education teacher and a mental health specialist. In addition, or program has family liaisons who work closely with families, school districts, and other agencies (e.g., mental health, children and youth services, juvenile court). Our staff also includes a psychiatrist, a psychologist, classroom aides, community based specialists, and experiential education specialists.

We provide an individualized, strength-based approach to academic and behavioral growth. Our services help students to:

(1)   Increase their grades and achievement

(2)   Reduce disruptive behaviors

(3)   Develop coping skills

(4)   Maintain positive relationships

(5)   Return to their public schools and home communities.
