Transition Resources for Parents

Introduction

This Parent Teacher Conference Handout is practical for special education teachers working with adolescents. By age 14 (and no later than 16), transition services must be instituted so that the student and his/her parents are prepared for transition to adulthood when the student ages out of special education services. Parents will always have questions about their child’s options when they leave the safety of the school district. Anxiety can be relieved by offering information that can help direct parents and students towards a smoother path to adulthood. These resources for the parents of your students should be a good starting point.
